“Discover the landscape… blend the layers and scales” This studio investigates the layers of landscape and asks how we can discover and rediscover it through the design of small urban voids. Accepting landscape as a socio-ecological system, the studio holds two sequential modules for helping students to develop conceptual design thinking and spatial design skills. The first module interrogates the current interaction of people with a coastal village [Garipce], representing a challenging mosaic of nature, history, and topography, to discover a new way to alter the experiences of people towards a pathway design. The second module, with the title of “Being a Student in Fatih- Gamification and Cultural Awareness” benefits from a cultural landscape setting and considers; Discovering the layers and scales of the landscape, Transforming small urban voids into cultural stepping stones, Benefiting from gamification as a spatial layer for cultural awareness, and Studying within a multi-scale design setting with a focus on students. The studio stands on an interactive platform involving workshops, seminars, guest experts and jury members.
